It wasn’t love at first sight. In fact, days before fate intervened, I remarked, in response to a friend, that he was “arrogant” and “didn’t do anything for me” (I mistook diffidence for arrogance and I really hadn’t bothered to look very closely). But then the two of us found ourselves alone in a car. By time we arrived at our destination, I was a woman in love.
Another friend once observed that “cancer can make or break a relationship.” Almost 18 years after that two-hour drive, I am still madly in love. And, lucky for me, he loves me, too.
